Las Vegas Convention Center
Las
Vegas Convention Center is only 3.7 miles from McCarran
International Airport which makes for a quick cab ride if you need to get to your
convention ASAP. It is conveniently located next door to the "Hilton
Hotel Las Vegas." As a matter of fact, if you stay at the Hilton, you can
get to the convention center by walking through the casino or the sky bridge. Another
convenient hotel to stay in is the Wynn Hotel
Las Vegas which is across the street from the convention center. The Wynn has
beautiful red buses that will shuttle you back and forth to the convention center
and they are complimentary. Photo Courtesy of Las Vegas News Bureau
The Las Vegas Convention Center is owned and operated
by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). It was started in 1955
as a means of attracting visitors to Las Vegas during off-peak seasons. Without putting
a burden on local residents, it is funded by a room tax on Clark County hotel and
motel guests. Other revenue comes from leasing space to exhibitors in the center.
The LVCVA promotes conventions, tourism, and special events to attract visitors and
conventioneers from around the world. In 2006, the LVCVA began a five-year multi-million
dollar reconstruction project to accommodate the influx of visitors. Currently, the
convention center is a 3.2 million square feet facility. It has over 2 million square
feet of convention space plus 241,000 square feet for 144 meeting rooms and seating
capacity up to 2,500 people. 225,000 square feet of lobby and registration area link
to the exhibit halls and meeting centers. It's a versatile center where numerous events
can be held simultaneously. The Las Vegas Convention Center is easily accessible
to visitors and exhibitors who stay in any of the 100,000 plus hotel rooms in Vegas.
Because it's so close to the Strip,
guests from hotels like the "Mirage," the Venetian,
the Bellagio, Caesar's
Palace, or even the "Paris" can easily take a cab or shuttle bus to
the convention center. Services inside the convention center include two restaurants,
18 concession stands, a full-service kitchen and 2 Starbucks coffee shops. A full-line
of business services is also available in the convention center. They range from audio/video
equipment rental, computer and copier rental, faxing, internet and wireless services,
office supplies, banners, wrapping and shipping for boxes under 150 lbs., personnel
for hire and much, much more. For a fee, you can also leave up to three traveling
bags at the baggage claim in the convention center if you are flying on Southwest,
United and Ted Airlines. When it's time to have your next event, whether it's large
small, have it at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
